I Wayan Dibia
I Wayan Dibia is an artist, practitioner, and academic who graduated from the Indonesian Conservatory of Karawitan and the Indonesian Academy of Dance Arts in Denpasar. In 1982, he received a scholarship from The Asian Cultural Council, New York, to pursue a Master’s degree in dance, and a Fullbright-Hays scholarship to complete his Ph.D. in Southeast Asian Performing Arts at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1987.

Over the years, Dibia has written hundreds of articles and more than fifty books in both Indonesian and English. For his contributions to the arts and culture, Professor Dibia has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Wija Kesuma Art Award from the Regent of Gianyar in 2000, the Dharma Kesuma Award from the Governor of Bali in 2003, and the Parama Satya Budaya Award (Maestro of Dance) from the Regent of Gianyar in 2007.
Internationally, he received the Padma Shri Award from the President of India and the Bali Jani Nugraha Award from the Governor of Bali in 2022. He also received the Rancage Literary Award from the Rancage Cultural Foundation in 2023 for his literary achievements.
